Every week my DMs fill up with the same question. “I want to get into cybersecurity. Where do I actually start?”
I built a map to help.
It covers 29 roles across seven career lanes: defence, offence, intel and forensics, engineering and cloud, DevSecOps and AppSec, network and identity and GRC and leadership. For every single role you get:
What the job actually does
UK and US salary ranges
Years of experience needed to reach it
How technical it really is, rated out of five
How hard the first job at that tier is to land
Skills, study, certs and tools
What you can side step into, and what comes next
Everything is colour coded by difficulty. Blue is your way in and is not a security role yet. Green is realistic within a couple of years. Amber needs real depth. Red is senior or specialist.
Two things before you open it. The salaries are typical 2026 ranges, so London and US metros sit above them and regional roles sit below.
Hit reply and tell me which lane you’re in. If your role is missing, I’ll add it to version two.

Thats really useful. Especially for career mapping but also on a wider scale for knowing what level people are at for potential employers. Nice one!
